Abstract

The era of industrial revolution 4.0 is marked by the rapid development of automation and communication technology which is implemented in various industrial and household devices. This research develops an Arduino-based automatic system for detecting and neutralizing cigarette smoke to increase room safety and comfort. The system uses an MQ-7 sensor to detect carbon monoxide, an Arduino Uno as a controller, and an exhaust blower fan, buzzer and LCD as output. Experimental research and development methods were applied, with testing carried out in two rooms of different sizes. The results show the system is able to detect cigarette smoke within 10 seconds and neutralize the room in 3-5 minutes, depending on the size of the room. Detection sensitivity and neutralization time are influenced by the distance of the smoke source and the dimensions of the room. This system has the potential to improve air quality and health in a smoke-free environment. Keywords: Cigarette smoke, Arduino, MQ-7 sensor, Carbon monoxide, Air quality.
