DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A DESKTOP-BASED DRUG INVENTORY INFORMATION SYSTEM USING JAVA NETBEANS AND MYSQL FOR PHARMACIES

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a desktop-based drug inventory information system to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and accuracy of stock management in pharmacies. The main problem identified is the manual data recording process using books and spreadsheets, which often causes data inaccuracies, delays in report generation, data redundancy, and difficulties in monitoring drug stock availability. This research applies the Research and Development (R&D) method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation to identify system requirements based on operational needs. The system was developed using Java NetBeans and MySQL database to support computerized inventory management processes, including drug data management, stock monitoring, transaction recording, and report generation. System testing was carried out using the Blackbox Testing method to ensure that all system functions operated according to user requirements and system specifications. The results of the study indicate that the developed system is capable of improving the effectiveness and efficiency of inventory data processing, minimizing recording errors, accelerating report generation, improving data security, and facilitating more accurate and real-time monitoring of drug inventory in pharmacy operations.
